Dry Skin Moisturizer - How To Choose the Right One For Your Skin
There are a number of ways to check out the quality of a dry skin moisturizer, don’t be fooled by how good it smells, not every good-smelling product is healthy for your skin. As you would imagine, the ingredients form the key element of any product: they should be natural, with as few chemicals as possible, and perfume should not be on the list. If your moisturizer meets these creteria, then you shouldn’t have to worry about the moisturizer burning or irritating your skin. The sensation a moisturizer leaves on your skin is essential in judging its quality, it should make the tissues moist and soft but not greasy.
Makeup artists periodically test and rate dry skin moisturizer brands, and their observations are included in many women’s magazines. The lists with the best skincare products are not at all random because they are seriously analyzed according to the standards of dermatologists, beauty editors and other specialists in the field. The only specification we need to stress out here is that hypoallergenic products work best for dry and sensitive skin; read the label carefully and check for this mention. Then, it is also very practical to know that ointments and oils are superior to creams and lotions, in this very precise order.
Any dry skin moisturizer ought to be applied right after washing or bathing, because the damp tissues will be maintained moist for a longer period of time. For hands affected by dry skin, you can use some petroleum jelly right before going to bed, because this is one of the best lubricants available. All sorts of healthy habits could help one develop a good skincare routine. Thus, the simple use of a dry skin moisturizer will be a lot more efficient if you hydrate properly and stick to a healthy diet. Most of the time, the skin reflects a person’s health condition: a dull looking skin instead of a radiant one speaks of tiredness, anemia, lack of sleep and so on.
Last but not least, we ought to refer to the use of a dry skin moisturizer in the treatment of certain dermatological conditions such as eczema or psoriasis for instance. Irritated itchy skin gets worse when it is dry too, therefore, an oily cream or ointment will reduce the discomfort and allow one to treat the condition more adequately. It is advisable to ask for your doctor’s help and suggestions in order to cope with such skin problems. Even after skin lesions are healed, the use of a good dry skin moisturizer remains a necessity to prevent recurrence and promote good health.
Dry Sensitive Skin
Dry skin is very often sensitive, which only makes it more difficult to care for. Dry sensitive skin feels tight because of the deficient lubrication and has a tendency to develop small expression lines that will evolve into wrinkles. Moreover, such a skin specificity makes one more exposed to allergic reactions, rashes, capillaries breaking and sudden flushes. Therefore, the care for dry sensitive skin could prove quite a challenge at times. It is worth mentioning the fact that it affects people regardless of age, color or gender.
The choice of cleansing, moisturizing and make up products has to follow rigorous steps when you have to care for dry sensitive skin. First of all, you need to minimize the amount of products you put on the face; the more the chemicals one comes into contact with, the higher the chances to develop rashes. All the products have to be fragrance free and hypo-allergenic so that you don’t develop red irritation blotches. The blusher and the foundation could pose some problems for dry sensitive skin.
Try not to use too much make-up in order to allow the skin to breathe adequately. When shopping for make up, other than the hypo-allergenic feature, you should also pay attention that they be oil free. The foundation or the blusher should be water-based because thus, they wouldn’t clog the pores. Oil absorbing foundations are not recommended to dry sensitive skin, because they will make your epidermis even drier.
It is not recommended to use exfoliants or astringent products on dry sensitive skin because they could irritate the thin epidermis. The same thing must be said in relation to cleaning: over-washing the face means eliminating the natural oils that lubricate the tissues, which will result in an accelerated dryness. Furthermore, the daytime moisturizer should have an incorporated SPF (sun-protection factor) of at least 15. Then, although you may like sunbathing, dry sensitive skin doesn’t allow you much to enjoy such outdoor pleasures.
Don’t expose dry sensitive skin to the sun for tanning purposes because you will only achieve a premature aging and even serious health problems. And last but not least, a warning must be signaled in relation to the changes of one cosmetic product for another. When you decide to switch to a different skincare brand, it is important to test the product on a small skin portion to check whether it triggers any allergic reaction or other negative manifestations.
Dry Face Skin
Dry face skin is a very common problem affecting both men and women alike. The big fuss about this type of skin comes from the fact that it can lead to very unpleasant consequences if not cared for properly. Thus, neglected dry face skin will show signs of premature aging, it will make one look much older and dull. You can prevent such irreversible problems by using skincare products designed especially for the condition.
The cleanser has a first important role in the daily care of dry face skin. You need to wash at least twice a day, in the morning and in the evening; thus, all the oils and dirt accumulated on the skin surface will be removed. Choose the cleanser carefully and don’t try to go cheap; a more expensive product is usually a quality brand that will not cause allergies and deteriorate your tissues. Only warm water should be used for cleaning because hot water aggravates dryness.
After cleaning, gently pat the skin with a soft towel and apply the moisturizer. Dry face skin should be treated only with a moisturizer that has a sun-protection factor included so that the damaging effects of the sun leave you untouched. You should use two types of face cream: a daytime and a nighttime moisturizer, because the needs of the skin vary according to the sleep-awake cycles.
Besides the normal daily care, dry face skin requires more special treatment periodically. Experts talk about the necessity to perform a deep moisturizing treatment at least once per week. You don’t have to go professional for the matter: the ingredients for such treatments are available at home and they are very easy to use. Honey and mashed avocado make an incredible dry face skin mask that will bring lots of vitamins A, D and E and plenty of other nutrients to the dermal tissues.
Although more rarely used for dry face skin, exfoliation is also necessary at least once in a fortnight. Exfoliating treatments more frequent than that could cause the irritation of the sensitive dry skin. The procedure should only be performed if a quality moisturizer is applied immediately after the exfoliation; otherwise the dry face skin will get very uncomfortable and tight on the bones. A good word of advice is to use as many homemade skincare treatments as possible, because they are free of chemicals, fragrance and artificial stuff that could damage your skin.
